Recently we completed our work on website for Galway based restaurant, O’Dowd’s Seafood Bar and Restaurant. The restaurant is located in the heart of Roundstone—a charming fishing village, situated along the west coast of Ireland. O’Dowd’s has been the recipient of countless awards for its superb culinary seafood delights and warm atmosphere and has been the topic of many travel writers reflections.

Telling the story

Nick from O’Dowd’s approached us to design the new site and wanted something fresh and visually appealing to highlight the historic restaurant’s charming and cosy decor, as well as their colourful collection of scintillating seafood dishes. He also wanted to highlight the story of restaurant’s history and its beautiful harbourside location and the way he sources his ingredients: sometimes by literally walking down to the harbour and speaking with the fishermen directly to choose his catch of the day!

We emphasised the way to best tell his story was to tell it visually. The site would be selling food and location as its main attractors, and everyone knows, we shop with our “eyes” when we are hungry and even when we’re not! As well as good design, good photography was an absolute must to tell a visual story.

We’ve worked with many photographers in the past, and for this job we needed somebody who specialised in food photography. We were happy to discover an amazing food photographer, Julia Dunin. Apart from being a joy to work with, Julia’s keen eye and professionalism complimented our design work beautifully. We think the result speaks for itself.

Working with Nick was an absolute pleasure, and he was very pleased with the result.

If you find yourself in that part of the world, be sure to checkout their seafood chowder—absolutely delicious!
